Seb Rochford's Drums
Me and Kev had a lovely two days Mon/Tues with Seb Rochford (Polar Bear, Acoustic Ladyland, Adele, Herbie Hancock), recording drums for my new album.
What a pleasure! Seb is lovely, and as I told him (...in case he needed the reassurance [dear me...]) he's, um, a really good drummer! Not only did I get beautifully tuned drums for every single song, he also came in after one song take and explained he was drumming in a certain way after reacting to certain lyrics, and generally does that. He also does a mean spinney thing with his drum brushes (which I'm sure most drummers and human beings are capable of, however I am in a bubble of rapturous adoration and am only feeling the love so leave me to it man, okay?) so on that note (the note that was in brackets) here is a poem I wrote last night after the sessions:
Into the night I run
with no sleep and a little fun
Into the sky I peep
My smile at a-quarter-to-nine is yours to keep
A little cute rhymie one. Awww. Uuuugh.
Over the two days we also had time to discuss other important issues: Supermarkets and Humous (Seb said he had tried a good Sainsbury's Humous, but I explained to him, after he said it was 'Moroccan Style' that all 'Moroccan Style' Humouses are generally good as they have to be to be 'Moroccan Style', but it's the plain Humous you really have to gauge the excellency of, and that Tesco have started putting sugar in some of theirs, and that Sainsbury is generally crap in everything, not just humous [except their 'Moroccan Style' humous which is apparently good but I have already explained why]), nuclear weapons, Brian Eno and the NGO BASIC, Personal responsibility, Seb's hair, Chicken Shish and salad in pitta (okay we didn't discuss that, we ate that, both days).
Anyway me and my esteemed colleague Kev Feazey will be choosing takes next week.
